OFFICES & PRINTWORKS, COTTINGHAM. Conversion and alterations of previous meeting hall to create modern printing and design facility with associated offices/studio space.

Developer: YRG Eclipse
Contractor: Phase 1 - Westfield Construction, Phase 2 - Simpsons of York
Project Management: Aspect 4
Contract Value: £750k
A&J were commissioned to design a new printworks with offices, studio, boardroom and printing space within a former meeting hall. The building was stripped out and A&J designed the new interior structure and spaces to accommodate the needs of YRG Eclipse along with some external extensions for storage and environmental control systems. A new first floor was inserted maintaining a double height space for the machines room. This building not only has to be functional for its products and manufacturing processes it also needs to showcase the company's design and print business and therefore glazed screens allow views along both a ground floor corridor and also from the first floor boardroom.

A&J worked closely with the end users to ensure that their machines would be located in the correct sequence and that the necessary ancilliary spaces are well situated for the day to day running of the business.

The exterior was re-clad with composite panels creating a more modern appearance to the building and improving its appearance so that it is now the flagship building for YRG Eclipse.

The project involved forming a large open plan office, two conference rooms (with views over the historic city), IT hub, reception, kitchen and shower facilities, amongst other ancillary spaces. The works required sympathetically modernising the entrance and staircase and managing the relocation of BT incoming supplies, relocating the IT servers from the existing premises and the installation of a new VoIP telephone system. The design also improved energy performance by way of sub-metering, upgraded roof insulation, energy efficient lighting, absence detection to light switching and dedicated recycling facilities.
